In case you might have missed, mid-day girl Micki Gamez is currently taking some time off of her usual 10a-2p duties to?undergo a thyroidectomy to help remove tumors from her body. This morning on Ty Loves NY, Micki called in to not only briefly mention why she would be taking some time off, but to also thank Phone Screener Bryan (myself) for helping undertake a fundraising event in her honor.?She is one tough cookie!
For everyone who is not aware, I am a runner. I love to run by myself, with people? basically any time I have running shoes on, you can catch me pushing out some miles. Last year Micki introduced me to Team In Training (Brooklyn team), which is a fundraising running group that trains for marathons, and raises funds to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. She had just successfully finished her half marathon in Miami, and was ready to continue with a new race! However, what happened next was a complete shock to not only Micki and her entire family, but to myself as well.

Micki broke the news that she has tumors in her body, which she would be needing surgery to remove. Because of that, she was not able to continue with her training, and therefore the spot would be left vacant on Team In Training (Brooklyn). After some talking (and some major persuading), I decided to train, fund raise and run a half marathon in San Diego for Micki Gamez.
Today (Tuesday March 12th) is the day Micki will be going into her surgery. She stopped into the 92.3NOW studio?s yesterday to record some things, and left a message for me with Ty:
