This TV stinks. No, really!

This TV stinks, really

Once upon 1981, John Waters tried to engage his cult-ish fans with a scratch-and-sniff "Odorama" card to complement the film Polyester. This TV is not that -- in fact, it's a decidedly higher-tech approach to true Smell-O-Vision. Devised by a team of Japanese researchers at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and demoed in prototype form at IEEE's Virtual Reality conference, the set uses four corner-mounted fans to break the fourth wall and create an immersive olfactory experience. By merging and adjusting vapors fed through these four airflows, the team can somewhat realistically trick viewers into believing the scent is coming from localized areas of the screen. We can just hear parents of the future now: "Stop sitting so close to the screen, Johnny. You're gonna pass out from the fumes." Ah, the future...

Paralyzed ex-athlete's foundation helping others

CLAREMONT, Calif. (AP) ? As he rolls through the front door of the sprawling Claremont Club fitness center and shouts a friendly hello here and there, for just a moment it's as if nothing has changed since Hal Hargrave Jr. was the big, friendly teenage gym rat who haunted this place.

The burly Hargrave's head was filled with dreams of playing college baseball as he strode into the gym, stretched out on a bench and pressed 300 pounds above his body. Again and again.

He's still big and burly, his arms still muscular and he still works out nearly every day. Only these days Hargrave uses that strength to move his wheelchair in and out of the gym, where he still works out 20 hours a week and knows just about everybody in the place.

These days, though, Hargrave's goal is to get walking again, something he lost the ability to do on July 26, 2007, when he swerved his truck to avoid debris in the road. It flipped four times, the cab collapsing on him and snapping his spine. It left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The irony is never lost on Hargrave that he was delivering handicapped-accessible bathroom doors as part of a summer job. If it was a sign to a strapping 17-year-old athlete that his life was headed in the wrong direction, it would seem to have been a particularly harsh one, but Hargrave doesn't see it that way.

"Some people call me crazy for putting it this way, but I have been given a gift," the talkative, friendly 23-year-old says with a smile over lunch at the gym's small cafe. "They see this as an ailment. I don't."

He sees it instead as something that gave him a chance to help others, to have his life truly make a difference.

It inspired him to create the Be Perfect Foundation, a nonprofit charity that has raised $1.2 million to provide wheelchairs, make homes more accessible and, most importantly, keep more than 100 people in rehabilitation programs they otherwise couldn't afford.

All of which would have been pretty impressive if Hargrave had just stopped there. But he didn't.

He persuaded the Claremont Club president to turn a racquetball court and a basketball court into a wing for people with paralyzing injuries. Then he got Project Walk, a spinal rehabilitation center where he'd been treated, to open its first franchise in this bucolic college town 35 miles east of Los Angeles for those who couldn't make the commute to its San Diego area headquarters.

"Here's a 17-year-old boy who had a debilitating, life-changing accident," said Mike Alpert, who runs the Claremont Club and whose daughter has known Hargrave since the two were in kindergarten. "So many people that go through that would give up. Would be depressed. Would blame everybody else. Here's a young man who just said, 'I have a calling to change the world and to help people through what's happening to me. And then he goes out and does it! How special is that?"

"He's an amazing young man," echoes Devorah Lieberman, president of University of La Verne, where Hargrave is a full-time student.

Although he hasn't regained full use of his fingers (he fist bumps rather than shakes hands), he's gotten back enough to take notes on his iPad. He maintains a near-perfect 3.8 grade point average.

Lieberman will never forget the first time they met two years ago at a basketball rally. Hargrave, never known to be shy, rolled up and introduced himself. He told her how he'd been hurt and she expressed her condolences.

"And he said to me, 'DO NOT be sorry! It was a blessing.'"

Then he gave her a Be Perfect bracelet that she wears to this day.

Not that the road back from the accident was easy.

"It was very touch and go the first two weeks," recalled his father, Hal Hargrave Sr., who still chokes up when he talks about what his son has overcome and accomplished. "They had him on breathing machines. He got pneumonia. ... We didn't know if he was going to stay with us or not."

Hargrave himself thought he would die as he lay trapped in the truck. Those stories about your life passing before you, he says, are true.

Although he's big and strong again, nerve damage keeps his body in a near perpetual state of motion, giving the impression he's fidgeting uncomfortably in his chair although he really feels little.

Given only a 1 to 3 percent chance of walking again, he threw himself into rehabilitation with the same fervor that once made him a high school sports star. Gradually movement returned to his shoulders, then his arms and hands. Lately he's started to get some in his legs as well.

"It's nothing that's too controlled movement yet, but it's coming back and I'm doing things that doctors are in disbelief about," he says happily.

It was after one of his arduous rehabilitation sessions, where limbs are yanked and twisted and bodies are placed in expensive machinery to simulate walking, that an epiphany led to his foundation.

Brian O'Neil, an electrician who had suffered a similar injury in a dirt-bike crash, told him he wouldn't see him again. He'd lost his job, was about to lose his house, didn't have insurance and couldn't afford any more rehabilitation.

Before he left the center, Hargrave persuaded his father to pick up the cost of O'Neil's rehabilitation. Then, on the ride home, he decided why not help others as well?

He was told that running a foundation wouldn't be easy, especially for a guy going through his own grueling rehabilitation. But he was adamant.

"He didn't like the word no. And he didn't like the word can't," Hargrave Sr. says, chuckling at the memory of raising the oldest of his four children.

O'Neil was blown away ? and still is.

"For such a young man he's very ? I can't even find the words to mention the kind of guy Little Hal is," O'Neil, using the nickname close friends call Hargrave by, says emotionally. "He's just a great kid."

Hargrave scheduled the first of what would become annual fundraisers at the height of the Great Recession and he hoped he might get lucky and raise maybe $30,000. After $250,000 poured in, he thought: "Maybe we can do this forever."

So he soldiers on, getting up each day, working out, running the foundation, hanging out with friends, going to school. Still a sports fanatic, he's earning a degree in communications with the hope of someday becoming a sports broadcaster.

But the foundation will always come first.

"I had dreams of going off and going to school and becoming a baseball player and doing this and that," he says as he finishes lunch. "But when I think back on it, it was so selfish. And now my dreams are much different. My dreams are to keep people in therapy and my dreams are to help other people. That's what my life is about at this point."

PFT: Cowboys reportedly can't tag Romo in 2014

Michael HuffAP

When he agreed to a three-year, $6 million deal with the Ravens, one of the first things Michael Huff did was text Ed Reed.

But at the same time, he doesn?t need to spend too much time trying to be Ed Reed.

?It means a lot,? Huff said, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. ?He?s one of the greatest, if not the greatest free safety to ever play the game. I just told him that I?ll carry on his legacy, carry on the tradition of great safeties in Baltimore. I?m definitely going to go out there and hold up my end.

?For me to come in here, I don?t really feel like I?m following his footsteps. I?m more kind of starting my own legacy and going in here to help the defense and help us win.?

There are two important reasons not to invite comparisons. One, Reed?s a former NFL defensive player of the year who?s likely to end up in the Hall of Fame when he?s finished.

But as importantly, Reed wasn?t Reed any more on the field last season, which is why they were willing to let him go become a Texan.

The Ravens weren?t going to get into a bidding war for a guy who?s turning 35 this season, allowing Houston to pay him a three-year, $15 million deal for intangibles.

So they found a player who is nearly five years younger, $9 million cheaper, and for the moment, perhaps a better fit.

Huff?s in Baltimore to play safety, but was forced into playing corner last year in Oakland. While he?s not someone you want on an island playing coverage, he can still cover ground, and that?s something the Ravens need in the middle of their new defense.

?He?s just a tremendous player, a tremendous guy,? Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. ?He fits us really well both football-wise and technique-wise, the type of person he is, the type of family man he is.

?He?s going to enable us to keep doing the things on defense that we have been doing and even build on those things. He has done it all because he?s smart, he?s tough and he knows how to play the game.?

So while the Ravens might not have the same kind of name recognition they once had on defense, they might be better. For roughly the same $41 million the Browns spent to lure outside linebacker Paul Kruger away, the Ravens have restocked by signing pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil, lineman Chris Canty and Marcus Spears and Huff, which gives them a better opportunity to live up to the reputation the old guys created.

(AP) ? Across North Korea, soldiers are gearing up for battle and shrouding their jeeps and vans with camouflage netting. Newly painted signboards and posters call for "death to the U.S. imperialists" and urge the people to fight with "arms, not words."

But even as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is issuing midnight battle cries to his generals to ready their rockets, he and his million-man army know full well that a successful missile strike on U.S. targets would be suicide for the outnumbered, out-powered North Korean regime.

Despite the hastening drumbeat of warfare ? seemingly bringing the region to the very brink of conflict with threats and provocations ? Pyongyang aims to force Washington to the negotiating table, pressure the new president in Seoul to change policy on North Korea, and build unity inside the communist country without triggering a full-blown war.

North Korea wants to draw attention to the tenuousness of the armistice designed to maintain peace on the Korean Peninsula, a truce Pyongyang recently announced it would no longer honor as it warned that war could break out at any time.

In July, it will be 60 years since North Korea and China signed an armistice with the U.S. and the United Nations to bring an end to three years of fighting that cost millions of lives. The designated Demilitarized Zone has evolved into the most heavily guarded border in the world.

It was never intended to be a permanent border. But six decades later, North and South remain divided, with Pyongyang feeling abandoned by the South Koreans in the quest for reunification and threatened by the Americans.

In that time, South Korea has blossomed from a poor, agrarian nation of peasants into the world's 15th largest economy while North Korea is struggling to find a way out of a Cold War chasm that has left it with a per capita income on par with sub-Saharan Africa.

The Chinese troops who fought alongside the North Koreans have long since left. But 28,500 American troops are still stationed in South Korea and 50,000 more are in nearby Japan. For weeks, the U.S. and South Korea have been showing off their military might with a series of joint exercises that Pyongyang sees a rehearsal for invasion.

On Thursday, the U.S. military confirmed that those drills included two nuclear-capable B-2 stealth bombers that can unload the U.S. Air Force's largest conventional bomb ? a 30,000-pound super bunker buster ? powerful enough to destroy North Korea's web of underground military tunnels.

It was a flexing of military muscle by Washington, perhaps aimed not only at Pyongyang but at Beijing as well.

In Pyongyang, Kim Jong Un reacted swiftly, calling an emergency meeting of army generals and ordering them to be prepared to strike if the U.S. actions continue. A photo distributed by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency showed Kim in a military operations room with maps detailing a "strike plan" behind him in a very public show of supposedly sensitive military strategy.

North Korea cites the U.S. military threat as a key reason behind its need to build nuclear weapons, and has poured a huge chunk of its small national budget into defense, science and technology. In December, scientists launched a satellite into space on the back of a long-range rocket using technology that could easily be converted for missiles; in February, they tested an underground nuclear device as part of a mission to build a bomb they can load on a missile capable of reaching the U.S.

However, what North Korea really wants is legitimacy in the eyes of the U.S. ? and a peace treaty. Pyongyang wants U.S. troops off Korean soil, and the bombs and rockets are more of an expensive, dangerous safety blanket than real firepower. They are the only real playing card North Korea has left, and the bait they hope will bring the Americans to the negotiating table.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said North Korea's "bellicose rhetoric" would only deepen its international isolation, and that the U.S. has both the capability and willingness to defend its interests in the region.

Narushige Michishita, director of the Security and International Studies Program at Japan's National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, isn't convinced North Korea is capable of attacking Guam, Hawaii or the U.S. mainland. He says Pyongyang hasn't successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile.

But its medium-range Rodong missiles, with a range of about 800 miles (1,300 kilometers), are "operational and credible" and could reach U.S. bases in Japan, he says.

More likely than such a strike, however, is a smaller-scale incident, perhaps off the Koreas' western coast, that would not provoke the Americans to unleash their considerable firepower. For years, the waters off the west coast have been a battleground for naval skirmishes between the two Koreas because the North has never recognized the maritime border drawn unilaterally by the U.N.

As threatening as Kim's call to arms may sound, its main target audience may be the masses at home in North Korea.

For months, the masterminds of North Korean propaganda have pinpointed this year's milestone Korean War anniversary as a prime time to play up Kim's military credibility as well as to push for a peace treaty. By creating the impression that a U.S. attack is imminent, the regime can foster a sense of national unity and encourage the people to rally around their new leader.

Inside Pyongyang, much of the military rhetoric feels like theatrics. It's not unusual to see people toting rifles in North Korea, where soldiers and checkpoints are a fixture in the heavily militarized society. But more often than not in downtown Pyongyang, the rifle stashed in a rucksack is a prop and the "soldier" is a dancer, one of the many performers rehearsing for a Korean War-themed extravaganza set to debut later this year.

More than 100,000 soldiers, students and ordinary workers were summoned Friday to Kim Il Sung Square in downtown Pyongyang to pump their fists in support of North Korea's commander in chief. But elsewhere, it was business as usual at restaurants and shops, and farms and factories, where the workers have heard it all before.

"Tensions rise almost every year around the time the U.S.-South Korean drills take place, but as soon as those drills end, things go back to normal and people put those tensions behind them quite quickly," said Sung Hyun-sang, the South Korean president of a clothing maker operating in the North Korean border town of Kaesong. "I think and hope that this time won't be different."

And in a telling sign that even the North Koreans don't expect war, the national airline, Air Koryo, is adding flights to its spring lineup and preparing to host the scores of tourists they expect to flock to Pyongyang despite the threats issuing forth from the Supreme Command.

War or no war, it seems Pyongyang remains open for business.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, IMPLICATION AND ... - information library

This chapter is concerned with summary conclusion, implications, recommendations, limitations of the study and suggestions for further study?

5.1?? SUMMARY

The main objective of this study is to investigate the causes and effects of phobia in mathematics among the secondary school student in?? Abakaliki Local? Government Area? to do this, a set of structured questionnaire was? distributed to one hundred and? twenty(20)? students and teachers from the ten (10)? selected? secondary? schools in Abakaliki Local Government?

Area.

??????????? The questionnaire sought to find the causes of phobia in mathematics among the secondary school students, the? effects and impacts on the national? development.? The data collected was collected in tables frequencies, means and analyzed. Based on? the data analysis, conclusion?? were drawn

5.2 CONCLUSION

Based on the data analysis and findings of the study discussed above, the following conclusions could be drawn.

i.???????? ?That? there are many causes of phobia? in mathematics? which includes among others, namely, lack of trained mathematics? teacher, students? negative mentality? towards? mathematics, inappropriate/effective teaching methods, inadequate/poor instructional materials and poor personalities of some? mathematics?? teachers were identified

ii.????? That the phobia in mathematics? has?? multianfeious effects? among which are poor academic performance is both? WAEC and NECO and JAMB examinations? massive cheating in public exanimation

iii.??? That the impact of this phobia in mathematics are enormous on the national development, it prevents many students from gaining admission in most Nigerian universities hampers development of science? and technologies in? Nigeria. It also engender poor manpower in? mathematics professions as?? it influences to? great extent the? students? choice? of ceruse? of study in? Nigerian

5.3? IMPLICATION OF THE? FINDINGS

??????? From the findings and the conclusion above, there are certain?? implication? which have?? been observed the? students total abandonment of mathematics lesson looms? around? our education? environment , phobia as has been defined is clinical intense? fear often irrational leading? to a compulsive need to withdraw avoid a thing or event . It therefore? follows that every measure? necessary should be put? in place to address it? on? the students, some of the causes such ?lack of trained teachers should be urgently solve? by the government through proper resentment of? qualified? teaches to? handle the subject,? these expert? teacher know how to? arouse and sustain? the? students interests in learning mathematics. ???

The? student?s? poor? reading cultures? do not help at all, this ahs become? national problem that needs aggressive? measure otherwise, in? no distance? time Nigerian? students?? may start avoiding schooling, this? has happened to?? the United States of American? in? the time past.

In adequate instructional materials obscures the effective lesson delivery, the?? implication of this is that, the students are? in danger of perceiving? mathematics an abstract subject that? exist in another planet

The teachers? should be exhibit? good?? behavior as role model to the? students and? smartly? dress so as to win? the? interests of their students, gone are the days when mathematics teachers used to dress shabbily, smoke or indulge in alcoholism, if?? this is the case, then no? student would? like to? model? such teaches,? it implies? that students attitudes?? towards? the subject would be negative

The all-year? round poor and? low achievements and performances? of? our ?students? in mathematics, after? six consecutive? and continuous?? mathematics education?? in? post primary school has become a serious problem? facing?? teachers,? parents? and government?? parents?? are? the worst?? hit, ?the value? for the money? they invested on the children? and wards education ?are not justified? in? the end. Government in the other hand, is affected as its citizens are hindered from advancing in the world of education?

?Cheating in the examinations is another serious threat caused by phobia in mathematics, students want to credit? mathematics by any means within this reach thereby?? absconding without the necessary basic mathematics?? knowledge? needed to be acquire this has affected the? qualities of? graduates? produced in the? end who would? be faced? with challenges? that might need? the mathematics? knowledge acquired? during?? their post primary? school to solve.

The Nigeria sate is battles? to be? among the twenty? 920)? most industrialized national in? the year 2020?? in what? is?? called vision? (20-20-20)? MDGs,? the? industries? in questions? cannot? be manned? b? politicians but? those who? acquired knowledge? in science and? technology?? and mathematics, this? means? that if the? students of? secondary school? are not made to?? think in this directions, than above? dreams? would be a mere mirage

5.4 RECOMMENDATIONS

The findings on the study revealed that?? certain factors are responsible for phobia in mathematics?? among the secondary school students. Based on the findings, the researcher is making the following recommendations which if followed, would at least reduce to the barest minimum if not completely eradicated, the phobia mathematics. ???

1.????? ?Teachers should develop positive relationship with students and stress? classroom activities, that will? involve? active teaching-learning process? and? students participation in? the class

2.????? ?Student should create enough time? for personal practice of mathematics??

3.????? Government through secondary schools, faculties of education , state and?? federal ministry of? education, professional bodies? such? as the mathematical association? of Nigeria? (MAN),? science teachers? association? of Nigeria (STAN)? and other stakeholders in the education?? industry? should organize periodic seminars and workshops??? for students , parents, teachers and school?? administrators on? the need? to implement mathematics education?? thoroughly, allay the fears in the minds of the students.

The recruitment of teaches should only be base on qualifications and merit. The acute shortage of mathematics teacher should? be urgently? addressed

Lawsuit filed in Ohio's child cancer cluster case

CLYDE, Ohio (AP) -- Lawyers in Ohio filed a $750 million class action lawsuit Thursday against Whirlpool Corp. that's related to a child cancer cluster between Toledo and Cleveland.

The lawsuit attempts to link Whirlpool and others to the cancer cluster, though the families of the children who've been diagnosed with cancer aren't involved.

Three families filed the suit, including a man whose wife died at age 23 a year after she was diagnosed with cancer.

The U.S. EPA has said high levels of a chemical believed to increase the risk of certain cancers were found in soil samples from a former park Whirlpool once owned near the town of Clyde. Whirlpool has a washing machine factory in Clyde.

The findings, though, didn't link the contaminants with the cancer cluster that has been under investigation by state and federal agencies for more than six years. Nearly 40 young people have been diagnosed with cancer since the mid-1990s in the area.

Benton Harbor, Mich.-based Whirlpool hasn't been directly connected to the chemical found in the tests. A statement from the company said that it's reviewing the lawsuit.

"As a member of the community for over 60 years, with more than 3,000 employees in the area, we are also very interested in figuring out the facts behind this ongoing issue," the statement said.

Families whose children have been among the dozens sickened in an Ohio cancer cluster have hired a private company to test several spots around the area in northern Ohio.

Still, the odds are against coming up with an answer because pinpointing the cause of a cancer cluster rarely happens.

Sea Hare Squirts Sticky, Sense-Blinding Ink At Predatory Lobster (VIDEO)

By Matt Soniak

Sea hares don't look like they can put up much of a fight, but these bunny-eared slug cousins can really knock you senseless. When disturbed, sea hares (genus Aplysia) release a dark purple cloud that's made up of ink and a sticky, milky mix of chemicals called opaline.

Today in The Journal of Experimental Biology, researchers show that the opaline in the ink cloud not only frightens and distract predators, but also interferes with their sensory organs and blocks their chemical receptors.

To find its desensitizing secret, the scientists dabbed opaline extracts onto the antennae of spiny lobsters, which will hunt the hares when less well-defended prey is hard to come by. They then blasted some shrimp-scented water into the lobsters' tanks and watched how their chemosensory cells reacted to the smell of food.

They found that opaline's sticky components alone could significantly decrease the cellular activity, suggesting that opaline strikes predators chemically "blind" by gumming up their chemical senses.

Most programs can keep several years worth of bookkeeping in their memory so you can easily access anything you need at any time.

You can also create invoices with these programs. The software can be set to automatically create an invoice at a set time of the month. This helps to keep everything on a regular routine and since it is automatic, you do not have to worry about manually doing it.

Many small business management software programs will allow you to have a separate account for each department you have. This will let you set a certain budget or each one and alert you when they are getting close to their budget.

The best part of these programs is the bill pay feature. This means you will never be late on another payment again. The system will automatically send out any payments you have it set for when you want it to. You can control when they are sent and how much you send them.

What If Buying Hard Cider Was Like Buying an Apple Product

Somersby Cider in the UK created a cheeky commercial that pokes fun of Apple product launches by imagining a world where buying hard cider is like getting a new iPhone. The Genius Bar would be a real bar and workers would talk about how many cores inside the apple, how many pits and how to use the "in to face" and dock the glass of hard cider. More »

Washington island landslide affects 34 homes

SEATTLE (AP) ? Some residents evacuated from hillside homes on Washington state's Whidbey Island after a large landslide are being told they can return, now that geologists have taken a preliminary look at the area.

One house was knocked off its foundation and 33 others were evacuated after the slide hit early Wednesday. Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Hartin says residents of 15 homes were told Wednesday evening they could return if they wished.

No injuries have been reported.

Hartin says emergency personnel evacuated a resident from the damaged home by all-terrain vehicle, reaching him by cutting across property owned by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The chief says Ballmer's home and property are not threatened.

Winning $338 million Powerball ticket was sold at N.J. liquor store

PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) ? One mystery was solved Monday in the $338.3 Powerball jackpot drawing ? the location in New Jersey where the winning ticket was sold. But a bigger mystery remained: Who bought it?

New Jersey lottery officials announced a liquor store in the city of Passaic, 15 miles northwest of New York City, had sold the ticket but said they hadn't heard from the winner ? who has a year to step forward and claim the prize.

Eagle Liquors owner Sunil Sethi said "a couple of people are telling us they got it, but nobody has confirmed it yet."

Liquor store employee Pravin Mankodia, 67, who has worked at Eagle for seven years, sold the ticket. "It feels awesome, we feel so lucky," he said.

The store will get $10,000. The owner said he'll probably use some of the money to fix up the store and also share some with employees.

As word spread that Eagle had sold the ticket, some patrons continued to dream about what could have been.

James Brown, 56, of Passaic, who described himself as a scrap man, as in scrap metal, said he would have returned to his home state if he had scored the big jackpot.

"I like it here, but I'd be back in South Carolina by now if I had won. I would like to go back home and retire," he said.

Brown buys lottery tickets twice a day and said he will keep doing so.

He then sought out Mankodia.

"Maybe he'll shake my hand and give me some luck, too," he said.

Other patrons were excited that someone from the area had apparently won the big jackpot.

"It's about time someone from Passaic wins something," said Gloria Brinson of Paterson, who buys lottery tickets at the store each week. "But now the question is what are they going to do with the money? Are they going to help the community? I hope so."

The winner will owe 25 percent of the jackpot in federal taxes and 3 percent in state taxes, which amounts to about $59 million, according to state lottery officials. The cash value of the jackpot after taxes is about $152 million, if the winner chooses a lump-sum payment of $221 million over an annuity.

State lottery director Carole Hedinger said it's not unusual for big winners to wait a few days or longer to claim the prize while they seek professional advice.

Lottery officials said it was the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The numbers drawn Saturday were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31.

No one had won the Powerball jackpot since early February, when Dave Honeywell in Virginia bought the winning ticket and elected a cash lump sum for his $217 million jackpot.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever came in at $587.5 million in November. The winning numbers were picked on two different tickets ? one by a couple in Missouri and the other by an Arizona man ? and the jackpot was split.

Nebraska still holds the record for the largest Powerball jackpot won on a single ticket ? $365 million ? by eight workers at a Lincoln meatpacking plant in February 2006.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The chance of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.

Auto Loan Consolidation Is Way Easier Than You Think

auto loan consolidation

Combining multiple lines of credit into a single, lower payment is not a novel concept. In fact, it?s a common practice in the credit card market, either through the process of credit card transfers of through other methods of consolidation. However, an uncommon, yet available method of combining debts is available for car loans.

If you haven?t heard of auto loan consolidation, you?re probably not alone. While this option isn?t as widely discussed, it can be a great help when it comes to managing loan balances and possibly even saving money on auto loan rates, which is certainly a financial relief considering Americans owe about $734 billion in auto loan debt, according to NPR.

What Is Auto Loan Consolidation?

Similar to refinancing a car loan, auto loan consolidation involves adjusting the terms of an existing loan, specifically for two or more vehicles. Some borrowers avoid this process simply because they are misinformed about the level of effort involved to combine two car loans, but the benefits of car loan consolidation are more financially significant than many borrowers realize.

A few advantages for those who consolidate car loans include:

  • Fewer bills in the mail, which means less clutter for you and a reduction in paper waste
  • One convenient payment to make each month
  • Minimum payments may also be reduced, depending on the consolidated loan?s new terms
  • Possibly lower auto loan rate, saving you thousands of dollars each year

With so many pluses involved with auto loan consolidation, spending just a few extra minutes to fill out the appropriate forms to see if you qualify to combine two car loans into one can create much needed wiggle room in your monthly budget.

How to Combine Two Car Loans into One Auto Loan

When deciding to combine two car loans into one, the process is similar to that of a typical debt consolidation. Specific documentation varies from lender to lender, but to avoid unnecessary delays, expect to have the following items on hand in order to submit a completed application:

  • Driver?s License
  • Social Security Card
  • 1-2 Additional Forms of ID
  • Employment Verification (e.g. most current pay stub, or letter from HR)
  • Income Verification (e.g. bank account statements)
  • Proof of Residence (e.g. utility bill)
  • Proof of Registration for All Cars
  • Proof of Car Insurance

Many financial institutions now offer easy-to-follow online applications that guide applicants through the auto loan consolidation process seamlessly.

Who Offers Car Loan Consolidation?

Not all financial institutions offer consolidation services specifically aimed at combining auto loans. However, banks and credit unions may be able to provide essentially the same service under the umbrella term, ?loan consolidation.?

One well-known bank that provides loan consolidation and identifies the option to combine two car loans into one loan is Wells Fargo. According to their website, ?Wells Fargo is one of the few lenders that refinances vehicles for more than their current value,? meaning that even if you still owe a large amount of the original loan?s principal, you may still be able to refinance and combine your household?s auto loans into a single, easy payment.

Before settling on Wells Fargo?s auto loan consolidation offer, however, first try speaking to your current lender to identify options for combining two car loans into a convenient refinancing alternative.

Should You Consolidate Car Loans?

Since the vehicles associated with the auto loan act as collateral for lenders, their present valuation can either make or break your hopes of auto loan consolidation. When considering an auto loan consolidation, always keep in mind that the value of one car must be high enough to cover the remaining loan balance for both car loans. If your unique loan situation applies to this requirement, and if your credit history is in order, you may be on your way to a streamlined repayment plan and greater savings.
